Freed, the second field hockey All-America pick in program history, gained national honors in 1991, after leading the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. A standout defender, she still holds the UMW school record with 37 defensive saves in her career, and was named the first-ever Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1991, as the Eagles claimed the conference championship.
