Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The University of Mary Washington softball team closed the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Southern Virginia University on Saturday at the Battleground, winning 10-0 in five innings and 5-1. The Eagles improve to 16-21-1 on the season, and will advance to next weekend's Capital Athletic Conference tournament.

In the opener, UMW scored one run in the first as the Eagles loaded the bases on walks and Caroline Callahan scored on a Morgan Mumford sacrifice fly.

The Eagles erupted for six runs in the third. Hannah Bruns led off with a walk and moved to second on a single from Danielle Newman. Malia Rogers reached on an error that scored one run, and another came home on a Kassie Bender sacrifice fly. After a walk to load the bases, Rogers scored on a wild pitch. Courtney Shea and Bruns each added RBI singles to boost the Eagle lead to 7-0.

In the fourth, Bender posted a two-run single and Amy Sykes added an RBI single to move the score to 10-0. Junior pitcher Kara Deppe did the rest, allowing just two hits and a walk with six strikeouts in gaining the win, her 13th of the season.

Bruns and Shea each had two hits for UMW, while Mikie Williams added a double.

In the nightcap, the Knights scored a run in the first, but the Eagles quickly responded with two in the bottom of the frame. Mumford plated both runs with a single, after Bruns singled and Newman walked.

The score stood at 2-1 until the fifth, when the Eagles added three more. Malia Rogers and Raven Oten each gave the Eagles a sacrifice fly, and the third run came home on a Sykes RBI single.

Jena Calvitti gained the win, allowing no earned runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in sveen innings. Bruns led the Eagles with four hits, while Sykes added a pair of singles.

The Eagles will advance to the CAC Tournament next weekend, at a location against an opponent to be determined.
