UMW Softball Downed By Bridgewater on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington softball team fell to Bridgewater in a Wednesday doubleheader in Fredericksburg, Va. 

Game 1 - Eagles fall, 3-2.

In Game 1, UMW jumped up by two runs in the first inning when Erica Shoop singled home Maeve Haun, then Emily Mousso followed with a single that drew an errant throw back in to score Shoop, 2-0.

In the third, Bridgewater singled a pair of runs home to tie the game, then an RBI double in the fifth drove in the eventual game-winning run. UMW drew seven walks and collected five hits in the loss. Sydney Jester and Stephanie Csontos pitched well in the circle, combining to allow just three runs in the seven innings.

Game 2 - Eagles fall, 5-4.

In the second game, UMW trailed by a run in the third, but plated three in the bottom of the third. Shelby Presgrave singled home Lindsey Poole to cut into the gap. Then, Mia Farhat's two RBI single brought in Presgrave and Shoop to give UMW a 3-1 lead. A two-run homer in the sixth tied the game at three, but Bayly Yerigan singled home a run to give UMW a 4-3 lead. But Bridgewater struck for a pair in the seventh to win, 5-4.

The Eagles collected 12 hits as Emily Angel led the way with three. Cierra Foss was solid in the circle, tossing six innings and yielding three runs.

UMW is back in action on Saturday for Senior Day against Christopher Newport. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
