UMW Softball Battles Christopher Newport on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington softball team fell in a pair of games to Christopher Newport on Saturday as the team honored seven seniors prior to the game in Ashley Knoll, Shelby Presgrave, Kennedy Darling, Emily Mousso, Emily Angel, Erica Shoop, and Anna Dobson in Fredericksburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles fall, 6-0.

In the first game, CNU got on the board the second after three unearned runs scored, then added another in the fourth, sixth, and then seventh innings to pull away. Bayly Yerigan, Presgrave, and Mousso all recorded hits for UMW.

Sydney Jester went six innings for Mary Washington, yielding five runs, though just one was earned.

Game 2 - Eagles fall, 4-1.

The second game was scoreless as Cierra Foss and CNU's starter matched each other pitch for pitch heading into the fifth inning. A walk, a steal of second, and a base hit up the middle drove in the first Captains run of the game.

CNU added three more runs in the sixth, but the Eagles were able to counter with a run after Ari Biddle laid a bunt down for a base hit that scored Maeve Haun from third to cut into the gap, 4-1.

Foss was solid in the circle for UMW as the right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs.

The Eagles are back in action for the Coast-to-Coast Conference semifinal matchup, heading to either Salisbury or CNU on Friday, May 8.
