The University of Mary Washington softball team split a doubleheader with Capital Athletic Conference foe Salisbury University on Saturday at the Battleground Complex. Game scores were 13-3 and 5-1. The Eagles move to 16-10 overall and 1-1 in CAC play.

In the first game, Salisbury scored a run in the top of the first to take an early lead. The Eagles responded in their next at bat with two runs to go up 2-1. Danielle Newman started off the inning with a walk and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Caroline Callahan singled to move Newman to third. Before Hannah Hautz grounded out, Callahan stole second and Newman stole home to give the Eagles their first run. Rogers then singled to center field to score Callahan.

Salisbury tied the game in the second at 2-2, then scored four more in the third to go ahead 6-2. The Eagles answered when Brittnee Haynes hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Hautz to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Salisbury scored another in the fourth and then three more in the sixth and seventh to cap the scoring at 13-3. Erin Stinson took the loss for the Eagles.

In the second game, both teams went scoreless until Salisbury scored a run in the fifth. The Eagles answered at their next at bat with two runs to take the lead. Callahan started things off with a single, and then advanced to third after a ground out and wild pitch. After Rogers reached on a fielder's choice, Haynes drove her and Callahan in off a single to center.

In the sixth, the Eagles added to their lead when Hautz hit a double to center to score Hannah Bruns. Rogers followed with a single to right field to drive in Bruns. After Kara Deppe was hit, she advanced to second on a wild pitch, while Rogers advanced to third and Hautz scored to put the Eagles up 5-1 for good. The win was the Eagles' first over the Sea Gulls since 2008.

Hautz had three hits and one RBI, Rogers had two hits and an RBI, and Haynes had two RBI to lead the Eagles at the plate. Deppe picked up the win for the Eagles, striking out five and walking six.

The Eagles are back in action on Thursday when they host Randolph-Macon for a doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
