The University of Mary Washington overcame two late deficits to defeat Wesley College, 6-5, on Friday in Salisbury, Md., in the second round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Eagles will face host Salisbury on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in a semifinal game.

Wesley jumped ahead, 3-0, after two innings, scoring once in the first and twice in the second. From that point, starter Bernard Mayflower settled in and didn't allow another run, pitching 6.1 innings in all.

The Eagles were held scoreless until the sixth, when James Sink tripled and scored on an Alex Bryant single. UMW grabbed the lead with three runs in the seventh, as T.J. Cretney led off with a home run. Seth Jordan and Cam Kostyack followed with singles, and both scored on a two-run single by Sink with two outs.

Wesley regained the lead in the eighth on a two-run homer, but the Eagles tied the score in the ninth, as Jordan was hit by a pitch, Jono Haught walked, and Costyack was also hit to fill the bases. Jordan scored the tying run on a double play, one of an NCAA record seven that Wesley turned in the game.

In the 10th inning, Tyler Truslow singled with two outs, and Cretney followed with a double. Jordan reached on an error to plate the winning run.

Junior Jake Black gained the win for UMW, allowing two runs on two hits in 3.2 innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Mayflower allowed three runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out six.

Cretney led the Eagles at the plate with a double and home run, while Sink tripled and singled.

The Eagles will face Salisbury on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the winner of that game advancing to the championship round.
