Box Score The University of Mary Washington baseball team took down Juniata on Saturday, 14-10, in Huntingdon, Pa.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning beginning with
Collin Clarkson's RBI single, then a wild pitch that scored Clarkson, before it was capped off with a two-RBI single from
Sean Smith. Juniata closed the gap, 4-2, in the second.
In the third,
Sean Smith doubled a pair of runs home to push the lead to 6-2, but a two-run homer in the bottom half brought Juniata to within two, 6-4.
In the fourth,
Eric Powell belted a three-run home run that added to the lead, 9-4.Then Powell doubled a run home in the sixth before
Sean Smith lifted a sac fly to center field that scored Powell, 11-4.
Juniata pulled within five, 11-6, in the bottom of the sixth, but the Eagles then added more to the lead in the seventh when
Oliver Martin, Clarkson, and
Connor Hassan all drove in a run with RBI singles, 14-6. Juniata added a few more runs in the seventh and eighth to claw within four, 14-10.
Game 2 was canceled and won't be made up.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday against Shenandoah in Winchester, Va. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
