The University of Mary Washington softball team topped Stevenson University, 5-4 in eight innings, before falling to Frostburg State University, 4-2, in being eliminated from the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles move to 19-21 on the season.
In the win over Stevenson, the Eagles scored three times in the first, as Brandee Aadams and
Morgan Lamon walked before
Amanda Adams connected for her second home run of the season. Lamon would single home
Michelle Durnavich for the Eagles' run in the fifth, and
Krissy Leber provided the game winning RBI to score Lamon on a pinch hit single.
Junior
Danielle Cunetta got the win with two innings of one-hit relief of
Nicole Black, who allowed six hits in six innings with a pair of strikeouts.
In the loss to Frostburg, neither team scored until the fifth, when the Bobcats scored three times. UMW answered with two in the sixth before FSU added an insurance run in the sixth.
Bireet Chitty singled twice and
Kerry Busby singled and doubled for UMW, who will host Catholic University in a nonconference twinbill on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
