The University of Mary Washington indoor track and field teams opened the 2025-26 season on Friday at the Virginia Wesleyan University First Chance Meet, with strong showings abounding.
The highlight was on the men's side, as the Eagles dominated the mile run.
CJ Hulleman finished first, at 4:27.24, followed by
Aidan Kimener in second, at 4:28.37. Steven Niese took third,
Ashton Shultz was fifth, and
Luke Blair sixth, and
Robert Stetkevych gained seventh place and
Trent Nichols eighth.
Eli Polovchik finished second in the pole vault at 10 feet, four inches,
Nicholas Smerlis finished third in the 5000 meters at 15:54.69 and also placed fifth in the 3000 meters at 9:13.92, and
Brady Thompson nabbed two top-10s, finishing seventh in the weight throw at 42' 9.75" and 10th in the shot put at 37' 5".
Kimener also took fourth in the 800 meters, at 2:00.01, while Hulleman finished fifth and Shultz seventh.
Everett Cimon was seventh in the 5K, and the 4x400 meter relay finished ninth.
Luke Wahlquist took seventh in the 300 meters at 35.79.
On the women's side, nijah James finished third in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.24,
Lily Hoffman was sixth in the 5000 meters at 18:38.60, and
Ava Wray scored a pair of fifth place finishes in the mile and 800 meters.
Eyaya Fletcher was seventh in the mile and 800 meters, with
Celeste Hammond finishing eighth in the mile and 10th in the 800.
Stephanie Clark took 10th in the weight throw, at 28' 3.75".
The teams will be back in action after semester break, on January 9 at VCU.
