Fifth-year senior men's soccer All-America selection Josh Kirkland (Richmond, Va.) has been named winner of the 2023-24 University of Mary Washington Male Athlete of the Year, repeating as the winner for the second straight year, and senior three-time All-America swimmer Kinsey Brooks (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) and senior All-America basketball forward Jordan Carpenter (Chesterfield, Va,) have been named co-winners of the 2023-24 University of Mary Washington Female Athlete of the Year.

A unanimous first team All-American by D3Soccer.com and the United Soccer Coaches, Kirkland led Mary Washington to the NCAA Division III NCAA Tournament sectional semifinals after ranking number one in the nation for much of the regular season, scoring 15 goals and adding eight assists in 21 games played.

He posted six game-winning goals. He gained consensus All-America honors, gained Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year, and collected first team all-region and first team all-conference accolades. He was named the conference player of the week three times.

Brooks was named the Female Swimmer of the Year by the New Jersey Athletic Conference, after winning the honor the previous two years for the Metro Swimming and Diving Conference. Brooks shined at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships, gaining three All-America honors in accumulating enough points as an individual to finish in 26th place in the team competition. She finished seventh at nationals in the 200 yard individual medley at 2:02.60, was 12th in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:03.22, and took 14th in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:19.61.

In three seasons, Brooks is a nine-time All-American, three-time Conference Swimmer of the Year, and repeats as the UMW Female Athlete of the Year for the third time.

Carpenter capped a brilliant all-around career with the women's basketball team by gaining honorable mention All-America by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, averaging a double-double, scoring a career-best 15.1 points-per-game and averaging 10.6 rebounds-per-game, also a career-high. For the Eagles, Carpenter was among the nation's leaders in double-doubles with 17 in the 2023-24 season.

With her efforts, Carpenter was named a the Coast-to-Coast Conference Player of the Year, the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, and was made the C2C's All-First Team as well.

A 2023 All-American, Carpenter became the 21st player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points this year. Her career high of 31 points was achieved this season against Gallaudet, when she notched her 1000th point at the buzzer. She was named the league's player of the week three times this season.

Coming into the season, Carpenter was named a D3hoops.com All-American Honorable Mention.

The UMW Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards have been presented each year since 2012-13.
