Jacinto Jones II broke the UMW school indoor record in the 300 meters, as the University of Mary Washington men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2024-25 season at the Liberty University Invitational on Thursday night and Friday. Jones ran the 300 meters to a time of 35.04, breaking the former mark by over one full second.
In other action for the men,
Jimmy Volk was sixth in the 5000 meters at 15:56.91, and
Rylan Sedlacek was seventh, at 16:29.97.
On the women's side, the Eagles comprised the field in the 5000 meters, and freshman
Lily Hoffman finished first at 18:12.82. Senior
Jessica Oberlies was second, at 19:59.59, and freshman
Addy Wallin was third at 20:04.69. Freshman
Ava Wray rounded out the field with a time of 20:23.13.
Both teams will be back in action after semester break at the Cardinal Track Invitational at Catholic University on January 18.
