#7 UMW Women's Lax Tops Southern Va., 19-3, on Tuesday in CAC Action

The seventh-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team used a balanced attack and a big scoring run to defeat Southern Virginia University, 19-3, on Tuesday in Capital Athletic Conference action in Buena Vista, Va. The Eagles improve to 11-2 on the season.

The Eagles started slowly, trailing, 2-1, after 4:05 of play. But the offense awakened as UMW scored the final 13 goals of the first half to lead, 14-2, at halftime.

Allison Davis scored UMW's first goal, and Paige Haskins started the scoring onslaught at 24:01, with Mackenzie Maguire following less than a minute later. Haskins scored on a Kristen Kunaniec pass with 22:24 left, and Savannah Boyd added to the lead 1:10 later on a Maguire assist.

Julia Albert scored on a Maguire feed with 21:21 left, and Hope Lockwood upped the advantage t0 7-2 with 16:24 to go on a Maya Levin assist. Davis scored her second of the half at 15:04, and Amanda St. Cur followed at 9:25.

Tess Siburn pushed the lead to 10-2 on a Maguire assist with 8:41 left, and Morgan Shorts scored on a Kate Sovero assist with 7:44 on the clock. Rylie Cole, Natalie Critelli, and Siburn closed the half with goals for the Eagles.

Lockwood opened the second half with a score from Haskins at 26:38, and Rebecca Pullen followed with a tally at 23:33. Samantha Stachowiak followed with an unassisted score at 16:41. The Knights scored with 13:31 left, but Pullen scored her second of the day to return the margin to 15 at 18-3 with 8:37 remaining.

Freshman Carly Lanzarotta capped the scoring for UMW at 4:40 remaining on an assist from Cole.

The Eagles led in shots, 29-10, and draw controls, 16-7. Hanna Ashby, Reilly Miller, Summer Allen, and Shannon Bremer combined for six saves for the Eagles, who will return to action on Saturday when they visit St. Mary's College at 1 p.m. in another Capital Athletic Conference showdown at 1 p.m.
