Senior forward Jacob Burke scored a hat trick, and classmate Riley Fisher added a pair of goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action at Homecoming at the Battleground on Saturday. With the win, the Eagles improve to 12-3 overall, and 7-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

After the Wolverines kept the Eagles at bay in the early going, UMW scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick from Burke at 27:49. Burke scored again at 40:00 on a Jacob Lovinger assist, and the Eagles carried a 2-0 lead to halftime.

In the second, the Eagles continued to capitalize on their opportunities, as Fisher scored at 46:38 on a Ryan Van Maanen assist. Fisher scored again three minutes later on a Gabriel Soriano assist. Wesley spoiled the shutout at 57:06 on a Will Mileski score, but Burke came back at 73:30 to score on another Lovinger assist to move the score to 5-1.

The Eagles led in shots, 17-2, as well as in corner kicks, 6-1. Mary Washington junior goalkeeper Matt Spencer had one save in 76 minutes of action, while junior Curran Smolinsky had none in 13 minutes of relief.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles host Penn State Harrisburg at 3:30 p.m. in another key CAC battle.
