Box Score Freshman Ben Cisse scored just 21 seconds into the game, propelling the University of Mary Washington men's soccer tem to a 4-0 victory over Southern Virginia University on the turf at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 3-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.
Cisse opened the scoring just 21 seconds into play, sending in a long, high shot that tucked in just under the crossbar from 30 yards out. Riley Fisher scored his third goal in the past week at 24:39 on a Carlos Mendoza assist.
The Eagles then grouped together a pair of scores four minutes later. Sophomore Jacob Burke scored off Mike Bennett's redirect of a Conor Nogueira corner kick at 28:04. Twnety nine seconds later, Mendoza scored on a header off a pass from Nogueira. The teams played to a scoreless second half, but not without drama, as each team hit the goalpost.
Mary Washington led in shots, 18-6, and in corner kicks, 6-2. Senior Tyler Back did not make a save in 75 minutes, and Matt Spencer added one in relief for the Eagles, while Efren Gutierrez made six stops for Southern Virginia.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, when they visit CAC rival Christopher Newport University at 7:00 p.m.
