The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team used a abalanced offensive attack and a stellar defense in defeating Hood College, 12-6, on Saturday in Frederick, Md. The Eagles improve to 9-4 on the year, and 4-3 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Eagles scored the first five goals of the game, leading 4-0 after the first quarter. Joey Marson opened the scoring at 12:41, and senior Harry Snyder scored again just over a minute later to build the lead to 2-0. Chip Pittard scored on a Luke Dick assist with 7:59 remining, and Dick found the nets just 21 seconds later to up the margin to 4-0.

In the second, Greg Smith scored on Paul Tunick's second assist of the day to push the lead to 5-0. After Hood scored, the Eaglesa closed the half with goals from Sean Dacey and Tunick to lead, 7-1, at intermission.

The Blazers cut the deficit to 7-2 in the third, but UMW scored four times to close the quarter to put the game away. Billy Kelly scored twice in the run, as well as Pittard and Peter McDermott. Dacey scored his second goal with nine minutes left in the fourth, before Hood scored four times in the final five minutes for the 12-6 final.

The Eagles led in shots, 45-22, and had 41 ground balls. The teams split the 22 faceoffs, and UMW forced 30 Hood turnovers. Matt Prin had three saves in 41 minutes of action while Kyle Davitt didn't allow a goal in 10 minutes of play. Michael Carnahan had two saves in the final eight minutes of play.

Mary Washington will visit York College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., with fourth place in the CAC Tournament on the line.
