The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated Marymount University, 13-9, on Saturday afternoon in Arlington, Va. The Eagles improve to 5-4 on the season.
The Eagles opened the scoring with a goal from
Reece Stone on a
Jackson Rhodes assist with 11:20 remaining in the first, and, after a Marymount goal,
James Milligan scored on a
Tucker Bradley pass at 4:20. The Saints responded with three late scores at the close of the first quarter to lead, 4-2, after one frame.
In the second quarter, the Eagles offense awakened, scoring four straight to start the period.
Quinn Weaver scored on a Joe Movak assist at 12:47, and
Dave Votapek added another at 9:48. Weaver scored again at 8:00, and
Logan Klinger added another at 5:50. Marymount scored twice to tie the score, before Votapek closed the second with a tally at 2:33 on a Novak pass.
Marymount started the third by scoring twice to pull to within 10-9, before the Eagles pulled away with a 3-0 margin in the fourth. Milligan scored at 13:27, and again at 4:09 on a Weaver assist. Votapek closed the scoring at 3:30 on a
Jackson Holt feed.
The Eagles led in shots, 41-34, and forced 20 Saint turnovers,while committing just 12.
Ryan D'Angelo made 14 saves on the day in gaining the win.
UMW will return to action on Saturday, March 28, when the Eagles host Kean University at 12:00 p.m. in Coastal Lacrosse Conference action.
