UMW women's rugby traveled to Richmond this weekend to play in the 7s tournament hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University. Their group saw them face Christopher Newport and VCU with both games ending in wins for the Eagles, by a 28-0 score against CNU and 12-7 over VCU.
The Eagles then faced George Mason in the semifinal round of the tournament. UMW played extremely well and ended the game with a shutout against George Mason 43-0, booking their spot in the final against No1 seed, William and Mary.
In the final, UMW started off sluggish, defending for almost the whole first half. It wasn't until an open field kick by
Ava Ward that was chased down by freshman Jo Lent right before halftime. The second half, however, went William and Mary's way as they edged the Eagles at the final horn,10-7.
The Eagles will be back in action on March 15, as they host their home tournament.
