On Saturday, February 14th, 2026, UMW Women's Rugby competed in their first 7s series of the Spring 2026 season, hosted by the College of William & Mary.
The Eagles won a shutout match against William and Mary's B-side for the first match of pool play, dominating 36-0. Four tries were scored by sophomore
Jo Lent. Sophomore
Rachel Limani also scored. Junior
Ava Ward scored one try and converted three of the six tries.
For the second match of pool play, UMW competed against VCU. Despite powerful runners with the Rams, UMW came out on top, 27-12. Tries were scored by sophomore
Cora Hammer (1),
Jo Lent (2),
Ava Ward (1), and senior captain
Nyah Speicher (1). Ward converted her own try.
UMW faced Longwood in the third match of pool play with another shutout, beating the Lancers 47-0. Seven tries were scored by numerous players, including Speicher (1), Ward (3), sophomore
Lena Hansen (1), sophomore and vice-captain
Greta Giese (1), and sophomore
Ella Brown (1). Ward converted an impressive six of seven tries.
In the semifinal match, the Eagles went head-to-head against William & Mary's A-side, beating them 31-0. Tries were scored by Giese (1),
Rachel Limani (2); converted by
Cora Hammer, Speicher (1), and Ward (1). Ward converted two of these tries.
For the series final, UMW faced Christopher Newport University. The Eagles led in the first half with two tries scored by sophomore
Lexi Krug, and one scored by Ward. CNU came out strong in the second half, scoring the first try of the period. Two minutes later, UMW's Ward scored again. Ward converted two of the four Eagles' tries. CNU touched down a second time two minutes before the end of the half. However, the Eagles remained on top, securing a 24-10 win.
UMW Women's Rugby kicked off their 7s season in style, bringing home an undefeated series victory.
