Eight Eagles Earn All-C2C Women's Soccer Honors

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer program had eight members earn All-Coast-to-Coast Conference honors -- which includes defender Natalie Anderson's Defensive Player of the Year award -- the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

In addition, Anderson was named to the C2C First Team along with forward Maci Landel, midfielder Ellen Shine, and defender Naomi Knight. Meanwhile, forward Emily Box, forward Layla Royster, midfielder Katie Britton, and goalkeeper Emily Orn were named to the Second Team.

Anderson was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 13, while helping lead the backline to 14 shutouts in the regular season -- the most the Eagles have posted since at least 2001. The single-season program record including the regular season and postseason is 15 set back in 1997. Anderson, Knight and Orn helped the Eagles came away with the 16th best goals-against-average mark in the regular season across NCAA Division III with a 0.391 mark. Too, UMW is tied for sixth in shutout percentage (77.8%).

Knight totaled nearly 1,200 minutes on the backline, coming away with a pair of goals -- the first on a penalty kick in the Eagles' season opener and then on a header against Salisbury on Oct. 18. Anderson, meanwhile, played over 1,300 minutes and recorded her first career assist in a 3-0 win over Marymount on Sept. 24.

On the offensive end, Landel was the conference's leading scorer with nine goals, coming away with a conference-best nine assists for UMW this fall -- she went on a scoring run that included seven goals in four games. She ranks 22nd in the nation in assists and 14th in game-winning goals (five). Meanwhile, Ellen Shine recorded five goals and two assists, playing in 16 games.

For the second teamers, Box scored five goals and added four assists in 15 games, while Royster added four goals and three assists in 17 games. Meanwhile, Britton scored twice and added four assists, coming away with a game-winner.

In goal, Orn started all 16 games she played in this season, totaling nearly 1,300 minutes in net -- posting a 10-2-4 record for the Eagles, starting in 12 of the Eagles' 14 shutouts. She recorded 28 saves on 83 total shots faced.
