The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team had no trouble in its Homecoming victory over St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon, 4-0, in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles posted their sixth consecutive shutout victory and now move to 12-2-3 -- their most wins since 2022.
The scoring started when junior
Maci Landel recorded her seventh goal in the last four games in the 16th minute that put the Eagles up by a score. And that's where the score stood at the break, though UMW controlled every bit of possession as it out-shot the Seahawks by 16, 17-1.Â
In the second half, the story was pretty much the same. UMW scored three goals -- senior
Ellen Shine had a pair of goals -- while
Gloria Abiassi cashed in the final score for UMW.
Shine netted the second and third goals -- her first coming in the 53rd minute before netting the finisher in the 63rd minute.
Skye Lawhun assisted on Shine's first, while Landel found Shine for the Eagles' third goal.
Layla Royster was the one who found Abiassi for UMW's final goal of the evening -- one that became UMW's 16th goal in its last four games.
For the afternoon, UMW led in shots, 37-20, with 20 on net. The Eagles led in corner kicks too, 14-2.
UMW is back in action on Tuesday against Lynchburg in Lynchburg, Va. First touch is set for 6 p.m.
