The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team drew with Lynchburg on Tuesday evening, 0-0, in Lynchburg, Va. The Eagles end the regular season with a record of 12-2-4 -- their most regular season wins since 2012.
UMW posted its eighth consecutive shutout -- it hasn't allowed a goal since Oct. 1 -- and 14th overall this season -- putting them in prime position to make the NCAA Tournament following the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament next week.Â
For Tuesday, though, it was business as usual for UMW as it controlled possession for most of the night -- out-shooting the Hornets by nine, 11-2. Of UMW's 11 shots, eight of them were on goal, while Lynchburg had zero. The Eagles, too, led in corners, 5-2.
Maci Landel -- who recorded her first scoreless game in two weeks -- led the way with four shots (two on net), while
Ellen Shine and
Layla Royster had a pair each.
Katie Britton,
Cassidy Shaw, and
Skye Lawhun all recorded a shot for UMW, too.Â
On the backline,
Natalie Anderson,
Amanda Dolan, and
Naomi Knight played all 90 minutes and
Emily Orn posted another shutout in net.
The Eagles, who were ranked No. 19 in NPI entering Tuesday, will likely hold as the No. 2 seed heading into the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament next week in Salisbury, Md. from Nov. 6-9.
