Christopher Newport, Mary Washington, and Salisbury shared top billing in the 2025 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Baseball Preseason Poll, following a vote among the conference head coaches.
The Captains, Eagles, and Sea Gulls collected three points and one first-place vote each.
The 2025 season starts in early February and concludes with the C2C Baseball Championship taking place May 9-11. Teams will be seeded based on conference results following the two head-to-head matchups.Â
Below is a brief preview of the Eagles:
The University of Mary Washington baseball team is set to welcome back eight of the nine position players that started in last year's Coast-to-Coast Conference Championship game. The Eagles bring back the program's all-time RBI leader in Ty Lowe, who returns for his fifth season on the mound and at the plate. Other notable returners are All-Region honoree Ryan Schwarz, who hit .349 in 39 games a season ago; Noah Roots, who's slugged .480 in his first four years in Fredericksburg; and sophomore catcher Oliver Martin, who hit .321 a season ago and was named to the ABCA Region VI All-Defensive Team last year.
On the mound, All-Region selection Gavin Riley returns as the team's ace after posting a 2.48 ERA in 65.1 innings in 2024. Meanwhile, Justin Ritz (3.83 ERA) and Connor Hassan (37 strikeouts in 30.1 innings) will be back on the bump to start Saturday's and Sunday's for Mary Washington.
Some of UMW's newcomers include transfer pitchers Reece Hamilton and Matthew Boyd, who both played at Richard Bland College for the past two seasons. Hamilton appeared in nine games on the bump a season ago, pitching to a 2.98 ERA in 30 innings, while also getting some two-way action as a middle infielder. Boyd, too, started 10 games on the mound, striking out 39 batters in 40 innings of work.
The Eagles open up the season on Tuesday, Feb. 11 against Eastern Mennonite at 2:30 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
