#21 UMW Women's Tennis Blanks Sweet Briar on Sunday

The 21st ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Sweet Briar College on Sunday at the Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles even their season mark at 3-3.

The Eagles started the day with a 3-0 margin in doubles. Senior Abby Moghtader and freshman Rebecca Stepleman combined at two doubles to top Ana Patino and Sofia Andrade, 8-3, and Sophomore Emily Beckner and junior Riley Smith won at three, 8-4. Senior Amanda Hagino and junior Hana Kimmey finished the sweep, with an 8-5 win over Ruth de Souza and Allison Wandling.

In singles, Moghtader topped de Souza at one, 6-2, 6-0, and Hagino downed Patino at two, 6-1, 6-1. Beckner defeated Andrade at five, 6-1, 6-3, and Stepleman defeated Katy Kotany at four, 6-2, 6-3. Kimmey topped Wandling at three, 7-5, 6-2, and Smith defeated Isabela Guilarte at six, 6-1, 6-7, 10-5.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they host Skidmore College at 4:00 p.m.
