#4 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Kean, 18-6, on Tuesday Afternoon

The fourth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Kean University, 18-6, on Tuesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles improve to 6-1 overall.

UMW got out to a fast start as they scored the first three goals of the game. Allison Davis got it started as she scored just 41 seconds into the game. Kristen Kunaniec then scored with 25:55 to play off of an assist from Mackenzie Maguire. Davis put home her second goal of the day just three minutes later to put UMW up 3-0.

Kean answered that run and scored the next two goals to put the score at 3-2 with 20:02 to play. Maguire scored on a free position shot to end the eight minute drought and put UMW up 4-2. After the Cougars scored a goal with 12:52 to play in the first half, UMW took control of the half and ended with scoring the last four goals.

Julia Albert got on the board with an assist from Maguire at the eight minute mark, and Paige Haskins followed that up with a goal on an assist from Maguire. Morgan Shorts scored off a free position shot with 4:26 left, and Maguire capped the first half scoring with a goal at the 1:07 mark and the Eagles held an 8-3 lead.

UMW tacked on three more goals in the early portion of the second half to take an 11-3 advantage. Haskins scored on an assist from Maguire and then unassisted with 24:36 to play. Albert added a goal at the 23:28 mark that gave the Eagles an eight goal lead. Kean broke that streak of Eagle goals and scored two straight to get within six, 11-5, with 20:03 remaining.

The Eagles went on another goal streak to up their lead to double digits. Davis started the run as she scored on an assist from Maguire and then Hope Lockwood put one in the back of the net on an assist from Savannah Boyd. Kunaniec scored on an assist from Albert with 15:56 to play to put UMW up 14-5. 

Albert then scored two straight goals, one assisted by Maguire, to give the Eagles a 16-5 lead with 14:03 left. Kean added a goal on a free position shot, but a goal from Davis and a goal from Kennedy King closed out the game for UMW to take an 18-6 win.

Rylie Cole led the team with 10 draw controls while also picking up two ground balls and caused one turnover. Davis picked up seven draw controls and also forced three caused turnovers. 

UMW outshot Kean 39-11, picked up 27 ground balls, and won 21 draw controls. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will host Roanoke at 2 p.m.
