#17 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Guilford, 14-3, on Wednesday in N.C.

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Guilford, 14-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead early when Mackenzie Maguire found Kate Smucker in the first 30 seconds. Hope Lockwood scored again a minute later off a pass from Emily Mott to go up 2-0. At the 22:52 mark, Julia Albert added to the lead after scoring on a free position shot.

Minutes later, Smucker found Sabrina Elliot for another Eagles' goal to extend the lead to 4-0. Smucker found Mott less than a minute later to bring the score to 5-0 on a man-up opportunity. At the 12:19 mark, Smucker tallied her third assist of the half when she found Paige Haskins to put the Eagles up 6-0.

With 10:34 left in the half, Hope Lockwood score on a free position shot. Allison Davis scored less than 30 seconds later, giving the Eagles an 8-0 advantage. The Eagles continued to take advantage of their free position shots, when Savannah Boyd used one to score the ninth goal of the half for the Eagles.

Guilford scored two goals in the final 1:26 to cut the deficit to 9-2 going into the break.

The Eagles picked up where they left off in the second, as Maguire scored two goals, one unassisted and one from Kristen Kunaniec, in the first four minutes to go up 11-2. With 19:50 to go, Katherine Lambert used a Davis assist to put away the Eagles' 12th goal of the game. Mott scored again on a free position shot at the 16:12 mark to give the Eagles a commanding 13-2 lead.  

Davis capped the scoring for the Eagles with 4:09 left in the game, before Guilford scored in the final minute of play to bring the score to 14-3.

The Eagles led in shots, 31-13, and in draw controls, 12-5. Hanna Ashby, Jacquelyn Albanese, and Kelsey Welsh all split time in goal for the Eagles, combining for four saves. Lambert, Mott, and Kirsten Littlefield each picked up four ground balls.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at 3:30 pm as they travel to Roanoke.
