Loehr, Massey-Elim Lead UMW Field Hockey Past Wesley, 8-0, on Saturday for Homecoming

Box Score

Senior Christine Loehr scored a pair of goals on her senior day, and junior Allegra Massey-Elim added another pair to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to an 8-0 victory over Wesley College on Saturday at Homecoming at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 11-4 on the season, and 4-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

UMW again scored early in the contest, as Massey-Elim took a Lauren Hopkins pass on a penalty corner at 2:15 and found the cage, as she did in the Eagles' win earlier in the week against York. Freshman Lexie Dixson scored six minutes later on a Shelby Press assist to move the score to 2-0.

Loehr then scored on a Dixson assist with 19:29 elapsed, and junior Morgan LaRowe added another 10 minutes later on a pass from junior Erin Kaila. Massey-Elim scored unassisted with 3:42 left before halftime, and Loehr added her second of the day with 20 seconds before intermission to give UMW a 6-0 lead at halftime.

In the second, Hopkins scored on a LaRowe assist on a breakaway, and freshman Victoria Novak scored the capper with 7:55 remaining.

The Eagles led in shots, 40-1, as well as in penalty corners, 8-1. UMW goalkeepers Jessica Cavolt (no saves in 35 minutes) and Ivy Hollander (one save in 35 minutes) shared the shutout. Wesley's Makenzie McIntyre had eight saves, Sidney Knott had three saves, and Sydney Stump had seven saves for Wesley, while defender Kasey Fry had four defensive saves.

UMW will be back in action on Friday when they visit Christopher Newport University in a key CAC contest starting at 6:00 p.m.
