Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #21 University of Mary Washington women's tennis team concluded the weekend invitational with a 7-2 win against the Banana Slugs. UMW won two of three doubles, and five of six singles matches en route to the win. The Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season.
UMW started off the day with a pair of doubles wins at number one and number three. Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris continued their strong weekend with an 8-6 win at one. Ashley Barrow and Alex Ritter also picked up a victory at number three doubles. The duo downed Monika Prokes and Kassondra Heacock 8-1.
Santa Cruz only won one singles match, as the Eagles took the other five. Raulston picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at one singles. UMW won at three, four, five and six singles to seal the victory. Mackenzie Smith was a 6-4, 6-4 winner in a very closely contested three singles match. Ritter, and Chrissy Gaul won at four and five respectively. Ritter displaced Danielle Caro 6-1, 6-0 while Gaul won zero and two against Prokes at five singles. Paige Weinberg rounded out the Eagle wins, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at six singles.
The #21 Eagles return to action with a pair of matches on Friday, April 4th and Saturday April 5th. UMW hosts York (Pa.) at 3:00 p.m. and Penn State-Harrisburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, before heading to Salisbury on Saturday. The match with the Sea Gulls is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
