The University of Mary Washington baseball team had seven members earn All-Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference honors on Wednesday morning. Head coach
Kelly Swiney was named the C2C Coach of the Year for a second consecutive season, while six student-athletes earned All-C2C Team spots.
Swiney led the Eagles to a 25-11 regular season record, including seven victories over ranked opponents this spring. UMW took down top-10 foes in Johns Hopkins and Bridgewater (twice) in the process. Mary Washington also finished with a 3-1 record against Salisbury and Christopher Newport, earning the conference's top seed and the right to host both the C2C semifinal and championship games.
Earning spots on the C2C First Team were:
Gavin Riley,
Collin Clarkson,
Connor Hassan, and
Oliver Martin.
Matthew Boyd and
Ryan Henson finished with C2C Honorable Mention honors.
Riley once again led the Eagles pitching staff in ERA for the second time in three seasons with an ERA of 4.27. He tossed 65.1 innings, struck out 40 hitters, while also completing a pair of games. He recorded victories over then-No. 18 Gettysburg and then-No. 13 Christopher Newport earlier this season, going the distance in the latter. Riley earned First Team honors in 2024 as well.
Clarkson transferred from Randolph-Macon prior to the season and didn't disappoint with the bat as the everyday shortstop hit .368 with 13 doubles, a triple, while driving in 20 runs. He also walked 10 times and was hit by six pitches -- drawing as many free bases as times he struck out. He was also 13-for-14 in stolen bases as well.
Martin, meanwhile, also hit well, finishing the regular season with an average of .352, while doubling five times and homering once. He drove in 12 runs, while walking 14 times and struck out just eight times. The Eagles' catcher was also highly successful on the bases, stealing 13 bags in 14 attempts. For Martin, it's his third time earning a spot on the All-C2C Team as he was on the First Team in 2024, while earning honorable mention honors last season.
Hassan earned his third placement on the All-C2C Team after finishing with honorable mention honors in 2024, then was named to the First Team in 2025. The UMW center fielder hit .322 with four doubles, a triple, and also homered four times, while driving in 30 runs. He walked 26 times, while striking out just 20 times. On the bases, Hassan has stolen 26 bases -- good for fourth-most in a season in program history.
Boyd made his second C2C Honorable Mention appearance after earning a spot last season. The right-hander finished the season with an ERA of 4.55, going 4-4 this season. He tossed 61.1 innings and carried a pair of no-hitters into the seventh inning this season -- the last coming against then-No. 10 Bridgewater. He also limited Salisbury's offense to just a pair of runs this season and slammed the door on CNU on Saturday as he recorded the final 13 outs.
Henson, meanwhile, earns his first selection on a C2C Team as the UMW first baseman hit .308, while doubling 13 times, homering four times, and drove in 26 runs.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday against Regent in the C2C semifinal game at 3 p.m.
