The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead, saw visiting Ursinus come back to tie the score, but found several big scores in the fourth quarter to defeat the Bears, 11-10, on Saturday at the Battleground for Senior Day. The Eagles even their season mark at 7-7.
UMW jumped out to a 7-2 lead into the second quarter, thanks to four scores from sophomore
Tanner Boone, and single tallies from
James Milligan,
Tucker Bradley, and
Reece Stone. Ursinus scored twice late in the second quarter to pull to within 7-4 by intermission.
The Eagles used third quarter goals from Boone and
Dave Votapek to extend the margin to 9-5 heading to the fourth quarter, but Ursinus got hot in the final frame, scoring four straight to tie the score at 9-9. Bradley scored midway through the fourth on a
Joe Novak assist to put UMW back on top, but Ursinus tied the score at 10-10 with 6:05 left. Then at 4:45, Novak scored on a Bradley assist, giving UMW the lead it would hold on to until the final horn.
Ursinus led in shots, 38-35. Eagle goalkeeper
Ryan D'Angelo made a dozen saves in gaining the win.
The Eagles will close the regular season on Tuesday evening at St. Mary's College of MD at 7:00 p.m.
