UMW Men's Lacrosse Come From Behind to Top Rhodes, 15-14, in OT

Sophomore Tucker Bradley scored the game-winning goal with 4:43 left in overtime, as the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team overcame an early deficit to defeat Rhodes College, 15-14, on Sunday afternoon in a game played at Roanoke College. The Eagles even their season record at 2-2.

Rhodes jumped ahead early, scoring four goals in a 1:35 span in the first quarter. The teams then traded goals, with junior James Milligan and senior Reece Stone providing goals for UMW. Bradley capped the first with a score assisted by Dave Votapek in the waning seconds, to draw the Eagles back to within 6-3.

Milligan opened the second with another unassisted tally, but the Lynx scored three to end the quarter, and held a 9-4 advantage at halftime.

The high-intensity third quarter saw a scoring barrage, as the Eagles outscored Rhodes, 6-4. Freshman Joe Novak started the frame with a man-up goal assisted by Votapek. After a Rhodes goal, the Eagles reeled off three straight goals, with Novak, Kyle Marshall, and Logan Klinger adding scores to pull UMW to within 12-10. Rhodes stopped the run with a goal, but Bradley and Milligan added goals to combat a pair of Lynx goals to push the score to 13-10, Rhodes, after three periods.

Milligan started the fourth with two goals, and Jackson Holt added a third to knot the score at 13 with 4:34 remaining. Rhodes regained the lead, but Klinger scored his second of the day to tie the score again with 2:13 left in regulation, and the score stayed tied through the final horn.

In the extra period, Bradley took a pass from Votapek on a man-up chance for the game winner with 4:43 left.

The Eagles were outshot, 50-42, but forced 25 Rhodes turnovers, and held a 38-35 ground ball edge. Eagles goalie Ryan D'Angelo made eight saves in picking up the victory between the pipes.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Eastern University at 4:00 p.m.
