Box Score The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-11 decision at Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in St. David's, Pa. The Eagles slip to 2-3 on the season.
UMW fell behind at the outset of the contest, as the host Eagles scored the first three goals of the first quarter against the visiting Eagles.
Reece Stone got UMW on the board on a
Carter Lynch assist with 7:46 remaining, and just 10 seconds later,
Dave Votapek scored on a
Jacob Fowler assist in transition after Fowler gained the faceoff to pull UMW to within 3-2. Eastern scored the next two goals, but Votapek stopped momentum with a man-down tally assisted by
Henry Moag with 14 seconds left.
Moag started the second with a man-up tally assisted by Lynch at 14:33. Eastern scored the next two tallies, before Moag and Lynch connected again on the man up with 3:40 left.
Ryan Adams pulled UMW to within 7-6 at the start of the fourth, but Eastern responded with three straight before Votapek connected with 4:10 remaining on a
Bryce Ridge feed.
In the fourth, Eastern upped its margin to 12-7 before UMW reeled off three scores in 2:31 to get back into contention.
Keller Dillman scored at 10:48, and was followed by Lynch at 9:08 and Stone at 8:17. After a score from
Antonio Zeno assisted by Votapek, UMW drew to within 12-11, but Eastern capped the scoring with 4:51 left.
UMW led in shots, 52-34, and ground balls, 46-40. UMW goalkeeper
Wyatt Martin made seven saves between the pipes.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they visit Washington (Md.) College at 7:00 p.m.
