Despite Ryan Schwarz picking up three legs of the cycle and Gavin Riley's seven inning start, the Mary Washington baseball team (25-11) was narrowly beaten by Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va., 7-6.

The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the bottom of the fifth inning, while Schwarz had just recorded the third leg of the cycle -- a two-run home run that cleared the wall in left field. They struck first in the first inning when Schwarz recorded his first hit of the day -- an RBI single -- that scored George Rizzo. Then, UMW scored again in the third on Schwarz's RBI double and Ty Lowe's sac fly to push the lead to 3-0.

After Schwarz's homer, Tommy Martinez added its final run of the day on a Tommy Martinez sac fly that scored Noah Roots.

Gavin Riley would depart after finishing seven innings for the Eagles in which the lefty surrendered just one run (in the fifth) on six hits, three walks, while striking out four batters. 

Lynchburg would score four in the eighth -- three of them came on a homer -- and two more in the ninth to walk it off over the Eagles.

Rizzo, Roots, Lowe, Bobby Ayscue and Alex Purgason all recorded hits for the Eagles.

Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday for its final regular season matchup against No. 11 Christopher Newport in Fredericksburg, Va. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
