The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-12 decision at Messiah University on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, Pa. The Eagles slip to 4-3 on the season.

The Eagles roared ahead in the contest, grabbing a 6-1 lead in the opening nine minutes. The Eagles started with a three-goal outburs in less than a minute, as Henry Moag opened the scoring at 10:50, and Jacob Fowler followed with another after a face off win at 10:42. Jackson Popeck added another on the man up at 9:57, to push the margin to 3-0. Ryan Adams added another at 8:43, and Fowler found Popeck for another just six seconds later to give UMW a 5-0 lead. Popeck added another with 5:46 remaining, as the host Falcons scored three of the final four of the quarter to pull to within 6-3 after 15 minutes.

Messiah started the second by scoring four straight to take the lead, but the Eagles scored two of the final three goals to tie the score by halftime. Logan Cardwell and Dave Votapek provided tallies.

The Falcons scored four straight goals to account for all of the third quarter scoring, before the Eagles used a pair of goals each from Moag and Votapek to pull to within 13-12, but were unable to find the tying score in the final minutes.

The Eagles led in shots, 45-39, as well as ground balls, 49-35. UMW goalkeeper Wyatt Martin made seven saves on the day.

UMW will return to action on Wednesday, when the Eagles visit Catholic University at 6:00 p.m.
