UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at Montclair St. in CLC Tourney 1st Rd.

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-14 decision at Montclair State University on Tuesday afternoon in Montclair, N.J. The Eagles close the season with a mark of 7-11. Senior Riley Green broke the career saves record at the school, with 508.

The Eagles jumped ahead with a man-up goal just over a minute into the game, from Dave Votapek on a Carter Lynch assist. Montclair State scored a pair of goals to take the lead, but UMW tied the score at 2-2 on a J.D. Nozemack score on a Jacob Fowler assist with 12:39 left in the first. The hosts would score the next goal, but UMW ended the frame by scoring four of the final five goals. Jackson Davis opened the run on a Votapek assist, and Ethan Castleman followed, prior to a MSU score. The Eagles closed the quarter with goals from Mike Seraphin-Jones and Garrett Keogh.

The Eagle lead swelled to 9-5, as Nozemack opened the second by scoring three of the first four goals of the frame. Montclair St. scored two to draw closer, but Nozemack netted his fifth of the day in the final seconds, giving UMW a 10-7 lead at halftime.

The teams traded goals to open the third, with Nozemack finding the nets again, but MSU scored four straight to pull ahead, 12-11. Nozemack scored again to tie the score and Lynch followed to give UMW a 13-12 lead, before Montclair St. scored the final goal of the quarter to tie the score entering the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Montclair State scored the first four goals to take command, with Henry Moag answering with 5:05 left for UMW's last tally.

The Eagles led in shots, 48-42, as well as ground balls, 36-26. UMW goalie Riley Green made 10 saves.

Nozemack closes his career with 135 goals (2nd in program history), 121 assists (1st), and 256 points (1st). On Tuesday, he broke the school's season points record, with 90. With his 10 saves on the day, Green surpassed the career saves record at UMW, with 508, breaking the mark of 500, set by Derreck Ostrzyzek.
