#32 UMW Baseball Sweeps Susquehanna on Sunday to Sweep Series

The 32nd ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team swept a pair of games at Susquehanna University, 13-2 and 12-4, to sweep the weekend series in Selinsgrove, Pa. The Eagles improve to 23-7 on the season, and run their win streak to nine straight.

In the opener, UMW jumped on top big early, scoring six runs in the first inning. Bobby Ayscue rapped an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Ty Lowe. Luke Guerzon produced an RBI single and scored on a fielder's choice and error, and Cooper Fulton provided a run-producing single.

Fulton added a run in the third on a solo home run, and UMW plated three in the sixth, as Ayscue hit a two-run triple, and scored on a wild pitch. After the River Hawks scored a run in the eighth, Fulton continued his big game with another RBI single, and Alex Purgason rapped a two-run single to cap the scoring in the ninth.

Fulton had two singles and a home run, and Ayscue two singles and a triple to pace the 13-hit attack. Justin Ritz gained the win, allowing no runs and three hits in six innings, with no walks and six strikeouts.

The Eagle offense continued to produce in game two, as UMW scored three in the first. Noah Roots hit a two-run single, and was followed by an RBI single from Ryan Schwarz. The Eagles took charge with five runs in the third. Roots powered a three-run homer, and was followed by a sacrifice fly from Tim Blankenship, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Ayscue.

An RBI single from Guerzon in the fourth and an RBI groundout from Ayscue in the fifth upped the lead to 10-0.Lowe added an RBI single in the eighth, followed by a sacrifice fly from Tommy Martinez. Susquehanna scored two in the seventh and two in the ninth.

Roots had a homer, double, and three singles for UMW, with five RBI. Lowe and Schwarz each had three hits in the game.

Brendan McComber gained the win, throwing five hitless innings with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday in a three-game series at Guilford College, starting at 3:00 p.m.
