UMW Men's Lax Tops Kean, 17-14; Nozemack Sets Career Assist Mark

Box Score

Senior attacker J.D. Nozemack registered four assists to break the school career assist record as the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated Kean University, 17-14, in the completion of a game suspended on April 15 on Sunday at a rainy Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-10 on the season.

The game was initially started in New Jersey, and suspended with 24 seconds left in the third quarter. In that action, Kean outscored the Eagles, 3-1, in the first quarter, with Ethan Castleman scoring UMW's goal. In the second, Kean started the period by advancing its lead to 4-1, but UMW responded with three straight to tie the score. Henry Moag scored on a Nozemack assist, and Dave Votapek followed with a pair of scores, assisted by Mike Seraphin-Jones and Nozemack.

After a Cougars goal, UMW reeled off four straight to grab an 8-5 lead. Garrett Keogh scored a pair before Votapek and Moag added solo scores. Kean netted three straight to tie the score at halftime.

The two teams scored back and forth in the third, with Jackson Davis scoring a man up goal, and Seraphin-Jones and Davis scoring, the latter just before the game was suspended for lightning.

On Sunday, the Eagles scored quickly at the end of the third, as Nozemack scored in the final seconds. In the fourth, Carter Lynch opened the scoring, and, after a Cougar goal, Nozemack scored unassisted. Kean scored again to draw to within 14-13, but the Eagles scored three straight, with Nozemack netting two and Castleman one. Kean scored in the final seconds to draw to within 17-14 at the final horn.

The Eagles led in shots, 40-33, as well as ground balls, 43-30. Riley Green made 12 saves in goal for the Eagles.

UMW gains the fifth seed in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference tournament, and will visit fourth-seeded Montclair State University on Tuesday in the first round.
