The University of Mary Washington baseball team split its Thursday doubleheader at 14th ranked Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., dropping the opener, 8-2, before winning game two, 11-4. The Eagles move to 5-13 on the season.

In the opener, the Eagles plated one run in the first, as Caleb McAlister singled, advanced to third on a pair of ground outs, and scored on an error. The Yellow Jackets moved ahead with five runs in the third inning, but the Eagles answered with one in the fourth. David Lambertson singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on another wild pitch.

Randolph-Macon scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 8-2 win. McAlister had a double and two singles, while Andrew Gerhart singled twice. Daniel Osafo took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in 2.1 innings, with three walks.

The second game saw the Eagles explode for seven runs in the first inning en route to an 11-4 win. McAlister was hit by a pitch to lead off, and Nick Bass followed with a single before Garrett Lyons followed with an RBI double. Ty Lowe then knocked in two runs with a single. Alex Purgason singled and Luke Guerzon walked to load the bases, and Noah Roots provided a two-run single. Owen Reilly followed with a sacrifice fly, and McAlister added an RBI single.

The Yellow Jackets scored three in the fifth, but the Eagles got those runs right back in the top of the sixth. Reilly provided an RBI double, and scored on a McAlister single. Bass reached on an error to plate McAlister. UMW added another in the seventh, as Roots added an RBI single.

McAlister was 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Roots went 3-4with two runs scored and three RBI. Ty Lowe pitched three shutout innings with five strikeouts and three hits allowed.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Southern Virginia University for a noon doubleheader.
