#16 UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls to #5 Salisbury, 13-7, in C2C Opener

The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision to fifth ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground in the Eagles' Coast 2 Coast Conference opener. The Eagles slip to 0-2 on the season.

The Sea Gulls jumped out in front with a pair of goals in the opening six minutes, before the Eagles trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at 22:50 on a Katie Blair free position shot. Salisbury scored the next two goals, before Rebecca Pullen scored on a Samantha Stachowiak assist with 19:27 remaining in the half. After another Sea Gull score, Blair scored on a Kayla Sarazin assist with 9:43 left. The Sea Gulls added a tally in the final second for a 6-3 halftime advantage.

In the second, Blair opened the scoring two minutes into play with another free position score to cut the margin to 6-4, and Erin Steinberg added another with 16:50 left, but Salisbury scored five of the first seven goals of the second to gain the advantage.

Sarazin scored with 6:31 left on a Tess Siburn assist to draw the Eagles to within 11-6, and Pullen scored on a Stachowiak feed with 3:33 to play. Salisbury capped the scoring with 24 seconds remaining.

Blair led the Eagles with three goals, while Pullen added a pair. Reilly Miller made 11 saves in 53 minutes in goal for the Eagles, and Cailyn Tripp added one stop in seven minutes of relief. Rylie Cole had seven draw controls and three gorund balls.

The Sea Gulls led in shots, 32-18, as well as ground balls, 21-14. 

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday at noon against third-ranked Washington and Lee University.
