The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to eighteenth-ranked Christopher Newport University, 15-11, on Saturday afternoon in Newport News, VA. The Eagles fall to 6-7 overall, and 0-2 in the CAC.

The Eagles got on the board early as Chase Kapuscienski scored just 46 seconds into the game. CNU answered the early goal with five straight goals, their last coming with 5:27 left in the first quarter to take a 5-1 lead. Chris White put an end to that run as he scored on an assist from Shane McKenzie in a man-up opportunity with 2:28 left. CNU scored the last goal of the quarter to take a 6-2 advantage.

The Captains scored the first two goals of the second quarter, to go up 8-2. Quintin Ricci added a goal as he won the faceoff and then scored with 10:40 to play in the quarter. After a CNU goal, White scored another one off an assist from McKenzie to put the score at 9-4. The Captains extended their lead to 11-4 but the Eagles scored a goal off the ensuing faceoff with 5:40 remaining. Cole Hogan scored his first goal of the game on an assist by Kapuscienski to put the score at 11-6. CNU closed out the half with a goal at the 12 second mark to take a 12-6 lead.

Hogan added his second of the day on an assist from McKenzie in a man-up opportunity just 1:24 into the third quarter to cut into the lead. CNU answered with a goal of their own and then Logan Green scored a goal on an assist from McKenzie in another man-up opportunity with 9:22 left. White scored with 5:41 to play on another assist by McKenzie and then Hogan scored on an assist from White with 4:07 to play to put to put UMW down just three goals, 13-10. Both teams then did not allow a goal in the rest of the quarter.

In the fourth, the two teams played a tight quarter as there were only three total goals scored. The Captains scored the first two, one at the 13:13 mark and the other at the 10:48 mark, to extend their lead to 15-10. Just six-seconds after CNU's second goal, Hogan answered with a goal after Ricci won the faceoff to put the game at 15-11. Both defenses did not allow a goal from there and CNU won the game 15-11.

Eli Ayer led the Eagles with nine ground balls, while Robert Tata and Ricci both picked up six a piece. Dyson Adams caused three turnovers in the game.

UMW will be back in action as they host Southern Virginia on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
