UMW Baseball Closes Regular Season with 14-10 Win over St. Mary's

The University of Mary Washington baseball team capped the regular season with a 14-10 victory over St. Mary's College in Capital Athletic Conference action at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles record a sweep of the three-game series, and head to next weekend's Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.

In a wild contest that saw four lead changes in the first five innings, the Seahawks pulled ahead first with four runs in the second inning, before the Eagles answered with six in the bottom of the inning. After one run scored on an error, Mikey Flosser reached on a fielder's choice to score the Eagles first run, and Tyler Ray followed with an RBI single. Christian Hague connected for a run-producing double, and two runs scored on an RBI hit from Kevin France

The Seahawks rallied for three runs in the fourth to retake the lead at 7-6, but Tyler Ray singled to lead off the bottom of the frame, and came around to score. The Seahawks retook the lead in the fifth with a run, but the Eagles went ahead to stay with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ray provided an RBI single, one run scored on a wild pitch, and two more came home on bases loaded walks to Garrett Lyons and Marcel Barrett.

In the sixth, UMW added runs as Flosser scored on a fielder's choice, and Hague provided an RBI double. Each team plated a run in the seventh, with UMW's coming from an RBI single by Stephen Johnston. St. Mary's added a run in the ninth on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.

Ray led the offense with four hits, four runs scored, and two RBI, while Johnston posted three hits. Hague doubled twice, and Kevin France added two singles. Johnston took the win in relief, allowing one earned run on five hits in four inningswith one walk and one strikeout.

The Eagles will next compete on Friday in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The location and opponent is still be to be determined.
