Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a doubleheader against Penn St.-Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles lost the first game 10-3, and fell in the second one 17-7. UMW slips to 9-16 overall, and 3-10 in the CAC.

In the first game, the Nittany Lions scored two early runs in the second inning. UMW got a run back in the bottom of that inning as Christian Hague homered to left field for his fourth home run of the year. The Eagles tied the game up in the third inning as Kevin France reached on an error and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Garrett Lyons moved him over on a groundout and France then scored on a wild pitch to put the score at 2-2.

The Eagles took the lead, 3-2, in the fifth inning. Marcel Barrett reached base and then David Lambertson singled to center to move Barrett to second base. Nick Bass then reached base on an error to load the bases and France picked up the RBI on a fielder's choice.

From there, the UMW bats went quiet and Penn St.-Harrisburg made a comeback as they scored three runs in the seventh, two runs in the eighth, and added three in the ninth inning to win the game 10-3.

Tyler Ray pitched seven innings, allowing five earned runs, and striking out seven batters.

The Nittany Lions gained control of the second game early as they scored three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning. UMW answered their quick start and added three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. Hague led off with a single to left field and then Norman Holcomb singled to center to put two runners on. After two outs were recorded, Nick Bass singled to load the bases. Hague scored on a wild pitch, and then France drove home two runs with a base hit to center field.

UMW added another run in the third inning as Stephen Johnston walked and then Ray followed up with a walk. Norman Holcomb singled to center field to score Johnston. Penn St.-Harrisburg pushed across four more runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-4 lead.

The Eagles brought it to within four runs, 11-7 in the fifth inning as they brought three runs home. Ray led off with a single and Hague walked. Ray then scored on a wild pitch and Lambertson doubled to left field to score Hague. Bass singled to right to score Lambertson and cut the deficit.

Over the next two innings, the Nittany Lions scored three runs a piece and increased their lead to 17-7. They shut down the Eagles bats and took the win.

Bass recorded three hits in the game, while France, Holcomb, and Lambertson had two each.

The Eagles will be back on the field on Tuesday when they host Averett at 3 p.m.
