#3 UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at #4 Salisbury, 11-7, on Saturday Afternoon

The third-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell to fourth-ranked Salisbury University, 11-7, on Saturday afternoon in Salisbury, MD. UMW slips to 9-2 overall, and 0-1 in the CAC.

The two teams played a very even back-and-forth first half as nobody held a lead of more than two goals. Salisbury scored the first goal of the game 4:30 into the game. Mackenzie Maguire put the Eagles on the board as she scored just 37 seconds later to tie the game. 

After a Salisbury goal with 22:08, UMW scored the next two goals to take a 3-2 lead. Hope Lockwood scored unassisted and then Julia Albert did the same at the 16:08 mark. The Seagulls countered with two straight goals to retake the lead 4-3 with 13:14 remaining in the half.

Albert tied the game at four as she scored her second of the game with 7:42 left. Salisbury then tacked on two more goals to go ahead 6-4 with just 4:19 left. The Eagles went on a run from there as they scored the next three goals. Lockwood scored with 3:02 left, then Albert added a goal on an assist from Kristen Kunaniec with 2:21 remaining, and Albert capped the run as she scored with 1:31 left to put the Eagles up 7-6. Salisbury added a goal with just 20 seconds left to tie the game at 7-7 at the half.

After halftime, Salisbury added a goal just 1:29 in to take an 8-7 lead. Both offenses were very slow as nobody could find the back of the net over the next 13 minutes. From there, the Seagulls then added three goals and shutout the Eagles' offense to take an 11-7 win.

Paige Childers led the team with four ground balls, while Paige Haskins had five draw controls. Hanna Ashby made eight saves in goal. 

The Eagles will take the field again on Saturday as they will host CNU at 1 p.m. as part of the Type I Diabetes Awareness Game.
