UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Roanoke, 19-7, on Saturday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Roanoke, 19-7, on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles improve to 7-1 overall. Allison Davis and Julia Albert led the team with five goals a piece.

Roanoke opened the scoring just 1:05 in and took an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles went on a run as they scored six straight goals. Davis got UMW on the board off an assist from Albert, and then Hope Lockwood scored off an assist from Mackenzie Maguire to put the Eagles up 2-0 with 25 minutes to play. Lockwood then scored another goal unassisted, and Maguire scored her first goal of the game off an assist from Davis.

Davis scored her second goal of the game with 18:58 to play, and Albert then scored her first of the game on an assist from Maguire to give UMW a 6-1 lead with 18:30 remaining. Roanoke ended that run by scoring two minutes later. Albert scored another goal off an assist from Maguire and Davis scored another unassisted to put the Eagles up 8-2. 

The Maroons then scored on a free position shot with 10:03 to play. Albert capped the first half by scoring unassisted and then off a free position shot to put UMW up 10-3. 

UMW kept their scoring going as Davis opened the second half scoring unassisted and then Maguire scored unassisted to put the Eagles up nine, 12-3. Roanoke got on the board in the second half with 26:37 to play to put the score at 12-4. 

Davis then added her fourth goal of the game and Paige Haskins followed her up with a goal on an assist from Morgan Shorts to give the Eagles a 10 goal lead, 14-4, with 18:46 remaining. The two teams then traded off goals over the next 10 minutes.

Lockwood scored on a man-down opportunity, and Rory Black scored unassisted with 9:25 to play to put the score at 16-6. Roanoke added their last goal of the game with 8:05 to play. Albert scored her last goal of the game in a man-up opportunity with 5:45 left, then Haskins scored on an assist from Maguire, and Shorts capped the day for UMW as she scored with 3:07 remaining that gave UMW a 19-7 victory.

Rylie Cole led the Eagles with four ground balls, while Haskins had five draw controls and three ground balls. Albert also controlled four draw controls and three ground balls.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will travel to Stevenson at 4 p.m.
