The University of Mary Washington baseball team fell to Lynchburg University, 9-2, on Tuesday afternoon a V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 3-3 overall. 

Both teams got off to a slow start as neither team could push a run across in the first two innings. Lynchburg got on the board in the third inning as they scored three runs. The Hornets then added four runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-0.

After another run was scored by the Hornets in the sixth inning, UMW got two runs back in the bottom of that inning. 

Tyler Ray led the inning off with a triple, and then Marcel Barrett grounded out to shortstop to pick up the RBI. Stephen Johnston kept the inning going as he walked. Christian Hague followed Johnston's walk up with a walk of his own, and then a two-out knock up the middle by Garrett Lyons brought home Johnston to put the score at 8-2. 

Lynchburg added a run in the ninth inning, but the Eagles couldn't add another as the Hornets went on to win the game 9-2. 

Lyons led the team with two hits on the day. Hank Biggs threw 1.1 innings, giving up no runs and striking out two. Barrett and Nick Bass combined to throw four innings and gave up two runs. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday as they will host Shenandoah at 3 p.m.
