Maguire Surpasses 200 Career Points as UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Shenandoah, 14-3, on Tuesday

Senior Mackenzie Maguire surpassed 200 career points as the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Shenandoah University, 14-3, on Tuesday afternoon in Winchester, VA. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season. Maguire led UMW with three goals and six assists. 

Julia Albert got the scoring started in the game as she scored on an assist from Maguire, 5:25 into the game. Just 30 seconds later, Savannah Boyd scored her first goal of the year to put UMW up 2-0. Both teams went scoreless over the next 14 minutes until Hope Lockwood put one in the back of the net on an assist from Maguire with 11:08 remaining in the half. 

The Hornets got on the board with 9:05 left to get within two, 3-1. Maguire picked up her 200th career point as she dished out an assist to Lockwood in a man-down situation to put UMW back up three, 4-1, with 6:23 to play. Maguire added a score of her own, unassisted, with 5:36 left in the half.  Albert added her second goal of the day on another assist by Maguire with 1:10 left, and then Maguire capped the scoring in the half as she scored a goal with just 20 seconds left to take a 7-1 advantage.

Maguire began the second half where she left off in the first as she scored just 42 seconds in to extend the UMW lead to 8-1. The Eagles kept their foot on the gas as Boyd scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Albert, and then Paige Haskins added two straight goals, both assisted by Maguire, to push the lead to 11-1 with 23:18 to play in the half. 

Allison Davis scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Kristen Kunaniec with 20:57 left in the half. The Hornets scored a second goal with 16:23 left, and then Morgan Shorts scored 12:13 remaining to put UMW up 13-2. Kate Sovero added a goal for the Eagles with 5:12 left in the game. Shenandoah capped the scoring for the day with 3:22 to play, and the Eagles won the game 14-3.

Hanna Ashby made nine saves in goal and picked up two ground balls. Reilly Miller also made three saves in goal for the Eagles. Ryle Cole had three draw controls.

The Eagles out-shot the Hornets 25-20, winning 12 draw controls, and converting 14-19 clears.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will host Lynchburg at 12 p.m.
