UMW Men's Lacrosse Defeats St. Mary's, 13-11, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated St. Mary's College, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon in St. Mary's, Md. The Eagles improve to 5-4 overall, and 1-0 in the CAC. Chris White, Shane McKenzie, Owen Dingman, and Conor Healy all tallied three goals for the Eagles.

UMW jumped out on top early 2-0, as White and McKenzie scored. The Seahawks added a goal with just 47 seconds left in the first quarter.

White added his second goal of the game just 26 seconds in to put UMW up 3-1. St. Mary's responded with a goal, and then McKenzie added his second of the day on an assist from Ben Byrne. Dingman scored with 6:05 remaining in the second quarter to keep the Eagles lead at two, 5-3. The Seahawks scored three straight goals to take the lead 6-5. Healy tied the game up at 6 a piece with just 26 seconds left and that score stood until halftime.

In the third quarter, the Seahawks scored just 2:15 in to take the lead 7-6. McKenzie scored with 7:40 remaining to tie the game up. From there, St. added two more goals and took the lead 9-7. Healy scored with nine seconds remaining to cut the lead to 9-8.

Dingman tied it up, 9-9, early in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks then regained the lead with 13:20 left. UMW answered as Dingman scored and then Brandon Davis added his lone goal of the game with 9:42 to play. St. Mary's again tied the game up at 11 a piece with just under six minutes to play. The Eagles took control of the game as White scored on an assist from McKenzie and then Healy scored on an assist from Cole Hogan to take the lead 13-11. The defense held on from there and UMW won the game, 13-11.

Eli Ayer registered a career-high 16 ground balls for the Eagles. Billy Senicola recorded eight saves on the day.

UMW scooped up 37 ground balls and were 21-24 on clear attempts. UMW won 22-28 faceoffs.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday as they will host Frostburg St. in a CAC clash at 4 p.m.
