The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team lost a tough game in overtime to Catholic University, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon in Washington D.C. The Eagles fall to 4-3 on the season.

In the first quarter, Catholic scored the first two goals with the second one coming with 10:09 left. UMW got on the board with just 59 seconds remaining as Chris White netted his first goal of the game.

Owen Dingman tied the game up at two a piece in the second quarter on an assist from Shane McKenzie with 10:51 left. Cole Hogan gave the Eagles their first lead of the game just 1:26 after Dingman's goal. The Cardinals scored two straight to retake the lead 4-3 with 5:58 to play. UMW tied the game up with 4:56 left as Conor Healy scored on an assist from Dingman, and the game was tied 4-4 at halftime.

Catholic got on the board first in the third quarter as the scored with 11:58 remaining in the quarter. White then scored his second goal of the game with 7:16 to play and knotted the game up at 5-5. Ben Byrne gave the Eagles a 6-5 lead with 49 seconds left. Catholic won the ensuing face-off and scored just 21 seconds later as the game was tied 6-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles had a man-up advantage and converted as Healy scored on an assist by McKenzie with 8:29 left to go up 7-6. Catholic tied the game as they scored with 3:54 remaining and that forced overtime.

Catholic scored the game-winning goal in overtime with 1:07 remaining in the game.

Hogan led the Eagles with six ground balls, while Mike Colgan collected four ground balls and caused five turnovers on the day. Billy Senicola made 10 saves for UMW.

The Eagles outshot Catholic 31-26 and converted 15-17 clears.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they host Geneseo at 12 p.m.
