UMW Baseball Falls to Va. Wesleyan, 9-4, on Monday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 9-4 decision to Virginia Wesleyan College on Monday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles fall to 9-9 on the season.

The Marlins jumped in front early with a run in the first. The game stood at 1-0 through five innings, but VWC added four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. The Eagles cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the inning, as Reed Farrier reached on an error, and moved to second on a Garrett Lyons walk.

Cody Beacorn walked to load the bases, and Brian Burns followed with a bases clearing single that scored two runs on the hit and another on a throwing error to third base. The Marlins added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Eagles had five hits, led by Burns' two-run single, and Stephen Johnston's double. Freshman Christian Hague absorbed the loss for the Eagles, allowing four runs on four hits in five innings, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday with a Capital Athletic Conference game at home against Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m.
