The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team opened strong, but fell at top ranked Salisbury University, 17-5, on Saturday in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season.

After both teams struggled offensively early, the Eagles scored first, as Owen Dingman scored on a Shane McKenzie assist with 6:27 remaining. The Sea Gulls tied the score 27 seconds later, but the Eagles regained the lead with 2:39 left, as Conor Healy scored on a Miles Davis assist.

In the second quarter, the Eagles added their advantage, as Chase Kapuscienski scored unassisted with 10:31 left before halftime. Salisbury responded with six straight goals to close the quarter, and take a 7-3 lead to halftime.

The Sea Gulls continued to add to their lead in the third, as they netted four straight to open the frame, before UMW's Robert Tata scored on a McKenzie assist with 5:17 remaining. The Sea Gulls closed the frame with two more scores to lead 13-4 entering the fourth quarter.

After an SU score opened the fourth, UMW's Drew Carlson scored unassisted with 12:19 left, to close the deficit to 14-5. Salisbury scored the final three goals of the contest for a 17-5 win.

Salisbury led in shots, 56-19, and ground balls, 51-36. Salisbury led in faceoffs won, 15-11, and both teams had 23 clears. Billy Senicola had 17 saves in goal for the Eagles, while Noah Dewey had six ground balls.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Wesley College at 4 p.m. in another CAC showdown.
