The Marlins opened the scoring in the first on a single, two stolen bases, and a groundout. UMW responded with four in their half of the first, as Thomas Weaver singled and Mitch Moynihan and James Keller walked to load the bases.

Kyle Bynum was hit by a pitch to plate a run, and Stephen Johnston added a two-run single. James Sink followed with an RBI bunt single. In the second, UMW scored three times to push the lead to 7-1.

Brian Burns was hit by a pitch and stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Moynihan walked, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Moynihan would also score on a wild pitch before David Slupek provided an RBI sacrifice fly.

The Marlins got back into the game with four runs in the fourth, but UMW answered with one in the sixth. Moynihan singled and reached second on an error to score Ramsis Ruiz, who had singled.

Virginia Wesleyan tied the score in the seventh inning with three runs on four hits and an error, but UMW bounced right back. Bynum singled and scored on a Sink grounder, and Slupek followed with a home run into the teeth of the wind blowing in from right field.

The Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, as Moynihan walked, Keller singled, and Bynum walked, and Johnston's cue shot toward first base was misplayed to score one run. Sink followed with a sacrifice fly.

Moynihan and Keller each scored three runs for UMW, while Ruiz had two hits, and Johnston and Sink each had three RBI. Junior Paul McClure gained the win in relief, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday night when they visit Southern Virginia University in Covington, Va., at 7:00 p.m.
